Getting the most out of "Cyclo Monviso" application

iPhone users

We invite you to add "Cyclo Monviso Mobile" to your Home Screen. Next time you'll want to launch the application, tap the "Cyclo Monviso" icon: you will be able to navigate in full screen mode, thus enjoying an optimal experience.

In order to add the application to your Home Screen:
- once the page has finished loading, tap on the "Plus" button located at the bottom of your screen;
- select the choice labeled "Add to Home Screen", from the menu now being displayed;
- select the "Add" button, from the "Add to Home" screen;
- the "Cyclo Monviso" icon should appear on your Home Screen.

All users

When accessing the App, you'll be requested to authorize "Cyclo Monviso" to store some data on your mobile phone. This will allow you to access most of the functionality of the app even when offline. An active internet connection is required only in order to navigate the interactive Google maps. While offline you will still have the possibility to visualize each itinerary on a static map, choosing the option "View map".

The interactive Google Maps will allow you to determine your location, selecting the option "Check position" from the Menù. Depending on your phone settings, a consent could be required. Some phones do not allow, by default, web sites to ask for the user position: such default phone settings should be modified, according to the user's manual.

Your position could be approximately retrieved on the basis of your Internet access data, a precise calculation will anyway require the phone GPS sensor to be turned on.

The project

Home

The project is part of the Integrated Cross-border Plan named "MONVISO: the Man and the Land", a plan for cross-border cooperation for sustainable development in the Italian-French territory of the Monviso area".

Thanks to Cyclo Monviso was created a new bike routes network in the Italio-French territory within the Monviso area. A cross-border itinerary links up Racconigi, Savigliano, Saluzzo, the Varaita valley and Guillestre, and offers the opportunity to explore the UNESCO sites, medieval villages and Renaissance delights, but also to enjoy nature, traditional festivals, handicrafts and local products. Shorter paths of varying difficulty, lead us to the old towns and around the four cities.

The paths passes through a territory studded with castles, rural houses, museums, religious sites and natural areas. The Significant Monuments are included in the accumulation of stamps contest. Visit them to win the useful prizes.

Itinerary 1.1

The Royal Farms

Migliabruna Farm, Church of the Assumption

Running alongside the wall surrounding the Park, which in the 19th century, also became the site of agricultural experiments, one reaches the 18th century farmhouse which hosts the Stork Centre. Further North, there is the Migliabruna Royal Farmhouse, a spectacular example of 19th century rural architecture, with its buildings symmetrically arranged around the courtyard. Leaving this locality, one follows the ancient "Grande route de Turin par Migliabruna" which linked the watercraft ports (ferries) on the River Po to the North gate of the Park which was the main entrance for monarchs and their guests.

The City Itinerary: within the two hearts of the City

The City Itinerary

Starting from Tapparelli Park, one follows the cycle paths on Corso IV Novembre and Corso Roma. Here one can find the 19th century quarter, which developed outside the ancient city walls, around the Cathedral; today, it represents the commercial heart of the city and it is the place where the city's nightlife takes place.

The route continues towards Piazza Castello, at the peak of the medieval village which is surmounted by the Castiglia. The recommended itinerary, which is slightly uphill, crosses Via Bodoni, Via Olivero and Via San Bernardino. It is recommended to visit the splendid 14th century village on foot.

In the surrounding areas: along the main route, Manta and Lagnasco Castles are not to be missed.

The climb to the Colle dell'Agnello

The climb to the Colle dell'Agnello

The itinerary crosses an authentic territory, with flourishing greenery and villages rich in history. From Verzuolo the route has long stretches of apparently flat ground, with modest slopes leading to Casteldelfino, where the Climb up to Colle dell'Agnello starts, one of the most difficult and fascinating alpine roads.

The ex-customs in Chianale marks the beginning of the feared final leg of the route: 10 km uphill at an average slope of 9.3%, with several stretches exceeding 12-14%. The environment is harsh and bleak, with the panoramas becoming more and more extensive and majestic the higher you climb.

At 2 km from the summit, the slopes seem to become less difficult to conquer, right up to a height of 2744 metres, where a milestone marks the Italo-French border. From the mountain pass, one can enjoy an excellent view both on the French side of the Queyras Park and on the Western slope of the Monviso. On the summit, there is no shelter; the nearest refreshment point (Refuge Agnel) is in the French territory, about two kilometres after the Hill.
